For this tutorial you will need:
A tube large enough to nearly cover the image
A font of your choice
DBS Flux - Linear Transmission
And a little patience *G*
We will make the template first. If you wish to use it over again save as a PSP file
Open a New Transparent Image- 500 x 400, and your tube
Choose two colours from the tube, a dark colour for the Foreground and a light colour for the Background
Switch the Foreground to Gradient and choose the Foreground/Background gradient with the following settings:
Angle 45, Repeats 0, Invert checked
Flood fill tool and fill your image with the Gradient
Copy and paste your tube as a New Layer and lower the opacity on the tube layer to 30%
Go to Layers, Merge Visible and merge the 2 layers together
Next, go to Adjust, Add/Remove Noise, Add Noise with these settings: 8%, Uniform checked
Go to Effects, Texture effects, Texture and apply with the following settings:
Choose Old Paper in the drop down for the image, size 100, Smoothness 0, Depth 2, Ambience 0, Shininess 0, Colour White, Angle 315, Intensity 50, Elevation 30
Add a New Layer, Flood fill with a matching light colour from your tube and lower the Opacity to 30%
Go to Layers, Merge visible
The Background Template is finished, now is the time to save it as a PSP file if you wish to use it again
Choose the Selection Tool, Rectangle, Custom Selection and use these settings:
Top 20, Left 40, Right 110, Bottom 300
Hit OK
Add a New Raster Layer
Flood fill the selection with your Foreground/Background Gradient, Angle 90, Repeats 0, Invert Checked
Selections, Select None
Go to Effects, Plugins, DSB Flux and choose the Linear Transmission with these settings:
Slice size 4, Offset 4, Blend 50, Horizontal checked
Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow, Vertical 1, Horizontal minus 1, Opacity 50, Blur 1, Colour Black
Lower Opacity on this layer to 36% and Rename to Left
Add New Layer, and name it Right
Choose Selection Tool, Rectangle, Custom Selection with these settings:
Top 20, Left 420, Right 460, Bottom 300. Hit OK
Flood fill with your Gradient, all settings the same except with Invert unchecked
Leave selected and go to Adjust, Add/Remove Noise/ Add noise - same settings as before
Go to Selections, Modify, Select Selection Borders, width 2, Both Sides checked, anti-alias checked
Add a New Layer, name it Right Frame and flood fill the selection with a gold gradient
Go to Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow Vertical 1, Horizontal minus 1, Opacity 50, Blur 1, Colour Black
Select none and lower the Opacity of the Right Frame layer to 50%
Add a New Layer and name it Inside Borders
Choose Selection Tool, Rectangle, Custom Selection with these settings:
Top 10, Left 10, Right 490, Bottom 310. Hit OK
Go to Selections, Modify, Select Selection Borders - same settings as before
Flood fill with gold gradient
Add the same drop shadow as above
Selections, Select none and lower the Opacity to 50%
Add a New Layer, name it Outside Borders
Selections, Select All
Selections, Modify, Contract by 3
Selections, Invert
Flood fill with gold gradient
Apply the same drop shadow as before and lower the Opacity to 50%
Resize your tube to fit your image and Sharpen
Copy and Paste as a New Layer
Drag the tube layer underneath the Inside Borders layer and place with the Mover Tool
Choose a dark colour from your tube to use as a drop shadow and apply with these settings:
Vertical 1, Horizontal 8, Opacity 50, Blur 30
Lower the Opacity on this layer to 70%
Highlight the top layer and add your text as Vector
Pull the nodes on the corners and sides of your text to your liking, then convert to a raster layer
Duplicate your text layer
Highlight the original text layer and go to Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur: setting of 2
If your text needs definition apply a drop shadow to the top layer of text
Vertical 1, Horizontal 2, Opacity 50, Blur 0 (Use the same dark colour as you used for the tube shadow)
Go to Layers, Merge all flatten
Add watermark and any necessary Copyright information
Resize using Bicubic Resampling
A tutorial is a guide ... the depth of shadows depends on the colour used. Change the settings until you are happy with them
